The 2015-16 edition of the Bantam Girls can be best described as both a transition and a growth season. Coming into the year, the girls had a goal to move up a division, while improving on their individual skill sets.
Out of the gates, the Bantams started off strong opening exhibition & OBL pool play with a 4-2 record. The team quickly stumbled upon the challenges that awaited them in their quest to compete and move up a division. With an earlier start to the season and a quicker turn around time in the OBL schedule, the girls hit the mid-season wall. It was tough sledding during the winter months, but the girls kept grinding and held true to their commitments to be better both on and off the court.
As the snow began to melt, the work that the Bantam girls put in started to showcase itself in their games. The turning point came while at a tournament in Markham, when an under(wo)manned group went toe to toe with some top tier teams and were able to come away with a bronze. From that point forward, the Bantam girls never looked back and were rewarded with being ranked as the 2 seed in Division 4 for Ontario Cup (Provincials).
At Provincials, the Bantam Girls were matched up with some very familiar opponents from the regular season. Each and every game that was played in Windsor was tied at the half during pool play. While it may have been tied at every halftime, the Bantam girls were able to escape with a 3-0 record and a spot in the finals.
The Bantam girls may not have come home with another banner this season, competing in back to back gold medal games at provincials in consecutive seasons is quite the accomplishment. Keep your head up ladies and remember that the end of one season is the start of another!!
